The North Extension of Macau International Airport will soon be open Brief Introduction of Facilities Optimization

With the joint effort from respective departments of Macau International Airport (MIA), and the guidance and coordination from the related entities of the S.A.R Government, the north extension of MIA will officially operate on 12th February, 2018. Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) has hosted a briefing session of airport terminal optimization in MIA on 10th February, 2018, and introduce to the media about the terminal optimization in 2017, services provided in the north extension area and the precaution to the travelers who will travel in the peak period during the Lunar new year. And a site visit of north extension was arranged to the media.

The total area of the north extension area is 14,000 m2, with the operation of the north extension area, the terminal capacity will increase to 7.8miliions, with an additional boarding bridge, and 4 remote boarding gates. The optimization projects of the terminal building which have completed in 2017 included: changing of sun control window films in the departure lounge, which increased 1/3 of the coverage, it provided a brand new image to welcome the new year, at the same time, it helps to block the UV light more efficiently, and save more electricity. Besides, additional boarding counters have installed in front of the boarding gate, which increase the boarding efficiency of the passengers. The new baggage handling system in the arrival hall helps the passenger to obtain their luggage in a shorter period of time, and the new ceiling and floor design, provides passengers a more comfortable and spacious environment.

During the first 5 days of Chinese New Year, we estimated that the daily passenger volume will reach around 20 thousands, a 5% increase compare to normal weekdays. To tackle with the peak season, MIA will increase the security check channel, and additional 5% security staff will support the security control, to ease the traffic. To avoid any delay of your itinerary, we call the attention of the passengers, to arrive MIA for the check in procedure at least 2 hours before the flight departure, and to go through the security control as early as you can.

After the briefing session, a site visit in the north extension area is arranged to media friends, to answer media enquiries, and to introduce the optimization projects more in details.
