The Dahme-Spreewald county building authority has today issued a building permit to Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH for BER Terminal T2 (earlier T1E). County Commissioner Stephan Loge handed the permit over to the Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup at Schönefeld. The building will be erected directly in front of Pier North and is an important component of the BER 2040 masterplan. Terminal 2 has an annual capacity of six million passengers and will increase the overall capacity of BER to 28 million passengers, on its opening. Together with Schönefeld Airport (later BER Terminal T5), which will be in operation until the end of 2025, the capital city’s airport BER will be able to handle up to 40 million passengers a year. A condition for the permit’s issue was the decision of the Joint Aviation Authority Berlin-Brandenburg (Gemeinsame Obere Luftfahrtbehörde Berlin-Brandenburg / LuBB) to amend the project approval, which was granted on 18th July.

Capacity of six million passengers
Terminal T2 offers the increasingly growing low-cost airlines optimum conditions to fly passengers to and from Berlin. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH will leave the building’s erection to a general contractor. An award decision is expected during the summer. Terminal T2 serves as a processor, providing all functions from check-in and baggage claim to security check, service facilities and restaurants. Boarding of the plane takes place from Pier North, to which the processor is connected via two bridges.
